Every woman has an underlying fear of turning up to an event either under or over dressed. While we do want to stand out in a crowd, we want it to be for looking fabulous, not grossly out of place! Below are some textbook tips to help you dress appropriately and ensure you look your absolute best.
Weddings
The importance of dressing correctly for a wedding cannot be stressed enough – you do not want to tarnish your friends big day by turning up in a casual dress and flats or, even worse, an elaborate ball gown. To state the obvious, if there’s a specific dress code, adhere to it. Don’t wear white (who would have thought), or black. Weddings are a celebration, so typically the dress will emphasize this by being light, bright and cheerful. Keep your hair and makeup in tune with this line of thought – simple, elegant and festive. Do wear heels, and accessorize with a clutch and jewellery. My Body Shape Range dresses make a great wedding outfit – shop them here!
Balls
Like weddings, there are some fairly strict rules when it comes to dressing for a ball. Wearing heels is a must, as is wearing a full-length gown. You should look classy and feminine, so avoid overly structured pieces or dresses that hide your gorgeous womanly figure. Traditionally, up-dos are the go-to hairstyle for a ball, and it is hard to trump an elegant bun. Add a clutch and a necklace or pair of earrings to complete your look. If you want to give your outfit a vintage feel, don a pair of elbow-length gloves. Blake Lively’s red carpet dress below would be a stunning ball choice!
Work function
Work events are always a tricky one, as there often isn’t any hint as to how you should dress. Play it safe and dress in smart casual – this way you won’t look greatly over or underdressed. Avoid casual items such as jeans and also overly fancy pieces. Stick with a nice dress, modest heels and simple jewellery. Add a blazer or jacket for a professional feel. Dinner with Friends
When it comes to more casual outings, such as dinner with friends or an evening at the movies, you can happily slip on your best pair of jeans and a nice top. Swap heels for flats to give your outfit a bit of a boost and don a nice jacket or blazer. A leather handbag is a great addition for this type of affair, and a splash of lipstick never goes amiss!
