Your job as a stylist is to help your clients find themselves, build a wardrobe around their individual style, but most importantly, love their body. Many people feel uncomfortable with their bodies. Due to images and media we see everyday, many people choose to point out their flaws instead of seeing beauty.
Today on the blog we have come up with some tips to help you help your clients love their bodies. The most important thing to remember is we were all born to be individual, no one is the same! All shapes and sizes are beautiful, it is how we hold ourself that shows the world how confident we are.
Teach your client not to hide from mirrors. Help them find the perfect place with great lighting in their home. Make them stand in front of the mirror and point out their best assets (and watch their face light up)! It is so easy to just find all the negative parts of our body and comment on them, we all have something we don’t love about ourself but teach them how to find what they love.
Make them write a list of everything they love about themselves. Make them write it down instead of just saying it out loud. It’s so much more powerful. Get them to stick it to their mirror so they can see all these great qualities on a daily basis.
When we don’t feel confident about how we look, it can be hard to accept compliments. You need to change their mindset! Your client needs to learn to how to listen to these compliments and take them on board. Maybe they get more compliments when they wear a certain shade of lipstick or when they wear their hair down. Teach them to be gracious when they hear these comments by always saying thank you. This will help them accept it and learn to believe it too!
Teach them to cut any and all negative words out of their vocabulary. When they look at their body, they don’t have to compliment it, but they are not allowed to criticise it either. When people stop tearing themselves apart for every little thing daily, they will naturally become a lot happier.
You also need to teach them that comparing themselves with others is not healthy. We have said it before and we will say it again: we are all different! Imagine how boring the world would be if we were all similar? You will often find that skinny girls want more curves and curvy girls want to be smaller. We always want what we don’t have but learning how to work with what you have got and showing off your best assets is the best help and advice you can give to anyone!
Our last piece of advice to help you help your clients love their bodies is to show them that their confidence and how they hold themselves, is going to impact how others view them. If they walk into a room and own it, people will take notice and think how great they look because their confidence is shining through!
Until next week fashionistas Xx
