Other characteristics of an Inverted Triangle:

– Your body will appear to be have an athletic physique

– You will not have much waist definition

– Those who have the body type of the inverted triangle will also have shoulders that are noticeably wider that your hips.

Style Objectives:

– If you have this body type, your objective will be to create the illusion of an hourglass figure.

– When you are shopping, look for garments that will help to balance your lower and upper body.

– Select styles that will emphasize your small waist, as this will draw attention away from your shoulders and will also help to balance your body.

Famous Inverted Triangles include Renee Zellweger, Naomi Campbell, Demi Moore and Cindy Crawford.

Clothing Choices:

– Bold pants and printed skirts will balance out your body shape.

– Fuller skirts and cropped jackets will help to fake curved hips, which will make your waist appear more defined.

– Avoid vertical detailing, as this will only accentuate your lower half.

– Wide leg jeans and flared pants will minimize your upper heavy body.

– Wide straps, Collar-less shirts, Chiffon and other draped fabrics will soften your shoulders.

– Bright coloured shoes will draw attention towards your gorgeous legs!

The Apple

If you have an apple figure you are likely to carry the majority of your weight around your midsection but you will have a slim lower body. Your goal will be to accentuate your beautiful pins!

Other characteristics of an Apple Figure:

  • Wide rib cage and back
  • Slim arms

Celebrities who have an apple figure include Catherine Zeta-Jones, Angelina Jolie and Dolly Parton.

Clothing Choices:

  • Full skirts and A-Line styles will help to create the illusion of an hourglass figure.
  • Clothes that skim past over your midriff but nip in at the bust will lift your chest and make your waist look slimmer.
  • A good push-up bra will lift your bust to add waist definition.
  • V-necks are known for flattering apple body types. They will make your torso appear trimmer as it draws the eye away from your stomach.
  • Subtle detailing on the hemline will draw attention to your legs
  • Tops with sleeve embellishments will accentuate your slim arms.

The Rectangle

If your hips, waist and shoulders are all the same width, your body is what’s known as ‘The Rectangle’. Your goal will be to create curves where they may not exist.

Style Objectives:

– If you are a rectangle you will need to highlight the smallest parts of your waist.

– By accentuating your waist you will make your bust and hips appear larger.

– Your legs and butt are your best ass-ets (pun intended), so make sure you choose flattering garments that accentuate those areas.

– Babydoll and A-Line styles will help to create the illusion of curves.

Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow all have a rectangular body type.

Clothing Choices:

  • Add dimension to your gorgeous body frame by adding lots of subtle accessories.
  • A good push up bra will lift your chest.
  • Belted tops, dresses and jackets will help to define your waist.
  • Avoid stiff and shapeless garments.
  • Detailed shorts and wide flared pants will soften your athletic figure.
  • Any garment that nips in at the waistline or below the bust will slim your waist and emphasize your chest.
  • Select box-pleat styles and dresses that include detailing around your waistline.

The Pear

If the widest part of your body is below your waist and hips you will have a body type commonly referred to as ‘The Pear’. Your style aim will be to balance and elongate your body.

Style Objectives:

– Wear garments that add more weight to your shoulders and bust.

– De-emphasize your hips to balance your proportions.

– Choose pants that fit your curves

– Avoid details on your hips and thighs

– A wrap neckline is slimming to your torso and adds emphasis to your bust

– Accentuate your upper body with eye-catching colours and embellishments.

– Bell and kimono sleeves are great styles for pear shaped figures.

– Downplay your curves with dark pants.

– Vertical details will slim your hips, try pleating, stitches and visible zippers.

– Heels will elongate your lower body and make your hips, thighs and legs look slimmer.

The Hourglass

If you have a well-defined waist with a fuller chest and hips, you will have an hourglass figure. To style this shape you will need to lengthen your legs and highlight your waist.

Style Objectives:

– Every other body type will try and mimic your figure, but you already have the ideal shape so don’t display too much skin. Simplicity is key.

– A dress that curves in at the waist will do wonders for your shape, a v-neck is particularly flattering to an hourglass bust.

– Never try to hide your figure, as baggy garments can be quite unflattering.

Salma Hayek, Kate Winslet and Halle Berry all have beautiful hourglass figures.

Clothing Choices:

– Look for clean, simple tops with scoop necklines and ¾ sleeves.

– Avoid layering and look for belts that help define your small waist.

– A fitted and tailored jacket will look amazing on your hourglass figure.

– Dresses that gather at the waist and flare at the hips will flatter all of your curves.

– Choose skirts that stop below or at the knee, a pencil skirt is bound to look fantastic on you.

– Select pants or skirts that follow your natural curve, but don’t wear any garments that are too tight.

– Lengthen your lean legs with nude heels.

May Newsletter 2023 Hi friends! Is your winter wardrobe in check? One thing people often forget to pay attention to is accessories, but this is such a fun way of dressing for the colder weather. These are the Winter Accessory Trends you should be aware of: Big scarves are in – and I mean big! Wrap it around your neck a bunch of times, or wear it like a shawl for a chic look. You’ll be cosier than ever! If you already have an oversized handbag, you’re in luck – this trend will be everywhere this winter. I love a coloured bag for a statement, and since red is hot right now, a large red bag is going to look extra chic. Own a pair of heeled boots? Time to bring those babies out. This season a stiletto heel is favoured over a chunky heel, but both are strong options and will keep your feet cozy. Love fashion and want to learn more? Join me on my next Fashion Stylist Course .
