Why Teamwork is Important

Being able to perform at your highest ability both individually and in a team is essential to success. When you work as a team you create a positive environment and enhance your happiness in the workplace. You also maximise your ability to get fast, effective results. Ultimately, teamwork brings people together – people from different backgrounds, with different skills and different interests. Embracing your colleagues and learning to work with them cohesively will benefit both your business and your overall happiness.

A happy workplace

Getting along with your coworkers will noticeably increase your happiness at work. Think about it – working with someone you’re able to hold a decent conversation and share a laugh with is going to be more enjoyable than working with someone who you can barely talk to. When you work in a team, you foster an environment of loyalty, unity and companionship. Teamwork promotes equality and camaraderie, and encourages communication. This creates a more empowered way of working, where your whole team is inspired and focused. When you have strong morale, reaults will follow.

An effective workplace

Everyone has different strengths, so it makes sense that working in a team generates success – imagine all those strengths combined! By harnessing multiple skills, teamwork makes for a more efficient result. Working in a team tends to mitigate power structures and hierarchies, which encourages respect among employees and replaces any potential for competition with support and cooperation. Teamwork also makes room for new perspectives on problem solving, and new ideas for growing success. Additionally, it provides more opportunities for learning, as colleagues learn new techniques from each other and through the team function. Finally, teamwork shows clients and customers that your team is well-oiled, encouraging and enjoys its work. And who doesn’t want to support a business that actually loves what it does?

How to make your team function

In order for teamwork to really ‘work’, a few processes need to be followed. You can’t simply put a group of people together and tell them to get going. It’s important to initially establish your team’s direction and vision. What are your team’s goals? What does it need to achieve? Next, you should set roles within your team. Who is the leader? Who are the strategisers? Once people know their position within the team, they will be clearer going forward able to work more efficiently. Then it’s all about staying on track, making sure everyone is happy and checking that the group is functioning well. To uphold team spirit and equality, why not have a team meeting at the start of the week? This creates an inclusive environment and ensures that everyone is one the same page. It’s also a good idea to have regular team performance assessments to see where you can improve things. From there, you can continue to grow your team, your business and your success.

Finding your Dream Career

We all want to have a career that’s perfect for us, right? A career that motivates and drives, and doesn’t make you dread getting up in the morning. A career where you can use your unique skill set and feel valued. That’s the dream! Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons many people settle into a career that isn’t their first choice. There are a lot of factors that weigh into this, including financial success, job security and lifestyle choices. However, fighting for your dream career is worth it.

Do you feel dissatisfied in your job? Do you think you could do more and be more? Do you want to change your life for the better?

It’s time to get inspired and build your dream career. So – how do you begin?

 

What are your interests?

A great place to start is to consider your interests. It makes sense that a career based on what you do in your free time is going to be a career you love. What are your hobbies? Do you play a sport or instrument, or enjoy reading or being creative? Maybe you’re really into photography or cooking. Perhaps sewing, fashion or cars is your ‘thing’. We all have a passion of some kind – in fact, many of us have multiple passions. What started out as an offshoot of my love for fashion and well-being turned into a career as a fashion and life stylist – and I couldn’t be happier. Think about your interests and build from there.

 

What makes you happy?

You should also consider the things in life that make you truly happy. What brings a smile to your face or peace to your mind? Maybe being outdoors is what makes you happiest, or spending time with friends. Maybe you just love interacting with other people in general. Maybe watching Netflix puts you at ease, or playing with animals makes you really smile. Whatever makes you individually happy is bound to be a good career fit.

 

What are your work strengths?

Considering your skill set is important when thinking about the right career for you. We all excel at different things, and your strengths should definitely be taken into account during this career-building process. Think about the skills you bring to the table. Are you great at strategising, marketing or sales? Are your problem solving or negotiating skills top notch? Are you a whizz with technology and social media? Maybe you have envious administration capabilities, or superb self-management. Are you an organised, flexible person? Do you have awesome customer service skills? No doubt there are multiple areas that you shine in, so make a list and get thinking!

 

What are your interpersonal skills?

Interpersonal skills are otherwise known as people skills. These are the skills you use in everyday life when interacting with others. If you have strong interpersonal skills, you’re probably great at connecting with people – something that employers really value. It’s important to consider your interpersonal skills as you uncover your dream career. How are you at communicating and building a rapport with colleagues and clients? Do you excel at leadership or teamwork? Is your workplace attitude professional? Are you good at motivating others or resolving conflict? Do you have great listening skills? As with your work skills, make a list to see where your strengths lie. Then combine that information with your interests and happiness factors, and begin brainstorming potential jobs! Remember, it’s never too late to build your dream career and change your life.

Maximising Your Potential Every Day

Do you want to increase your potential each day? Do you want to achieve your goals in both your career and personal life? Do you want to wake up every morning feeling great and with a sense of purpose? It’s time to harness your skills and generate productivity to achieve success. Thankfully, there are a few simple ways you can maximise your potential, beginning with my tips below.

 

Set an Intention

The simplest way to enhance your capacity for success is to set an intention when you wake each day. Sit quietly for a moment and consider what you want to achieve that day, week or month. Think about how you will work towards your goals. Then, with a calm and positive tone, form a solid intention for that day. It could be as simple as “today I will network with three people to expand my brand’s awareness and build connections.” Maybe it’s more complex, like “today I will make a list of comprehensive steps needed to reach my monthly target.” Whatever it is, set it in your mind, repeat it silently to yourself, then begin your day with purpose!

 

Meditate

I’m a big advocate for meditation. I truly believe meditation not only creates peace and brings balance to our lives, but eliminates stress and negative energy. Meditating for even 5 minutes a day, every day, will bring changes to your experience. Meditation encourages you to contemplate your feelings, thoughts and experiences. In a state of meditation you become in-tune to yourself and pay attention to everything that’s going on inside. This allows you to note areas that need assistance and begin an inner healing process. More than anything, meditation helps you achieve clarity. After meditating I always feel clear in my intentions, peaceful and ready to get going. Try to meditate for 10-20 minutes a day if possible – you won’t regret it.

 

Exercise

Exercise is another fabulous way to increase your potential. As we’ve been told time and again, exercise makes us feel better. It’s a simple way to boost your energy and productivity, as well as work your body. Aim to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. I like to mix things up so I don’t lose interest or motivation, going for a brisk walk a couple of days, practicing yoga another day and trying different classes at the gym for the rest of the week. Pump is great to get the heart racing and the muscles pumping, but there are tons of options out there so give a few of them a try! If you aren’t a morning person and get home after dark, exercising during your lunch hour might be the best option for you – this is also a great way to bring you back to work feeling fresh.

 

Take Productive Breaks

The easiest way to enhance your potential on the spot is to take care of your mind and have productive breaks at work. Sitting at your desk all day without breaks isn’t good for your body or your capabilities. When you lose focus or motivation, your work suffers and so does your success rate. Keep your mind on the ball by taking small breaks and allowing yourself to come back with a clear, focused mind. Get up and walk around the office, or grab a coffee at your local cafe. Do a few stretches in your office, or flip through a magazine over a cup of green tea. As long a you get away from your computer screen and out of your chair, you’re going to feel the difference.

Valuing What You Love: Why You Should Do It

When it comes to doing what you love, have you ever been struck by the following thoughts?

“My passion can’t support me financially”

“No one will care about what I love doing”

“Achieving my dream career will take years of planning and money, and even then it might not work out”

“Following my passion is too risky”

Self-doubt is destructive and will only have a negative impact on your life and career. In order to succeed, you need to banish negative thoughts and replace them with positivity, drive and vision. Read on for my tips on how to value yourself – and your dreams!

Know Your Worth – and Own It!

Understand the exceptional value that you as a person possess. Forget about how much money you earn, what you look like or what you do for a living. This is about you as a unique individual. A person with a big salary is not necessarily a good person, or a happy person. Think about your positive traits, the good things you’ve done in life and the times when you have made a difference. Think about why you love your passion – what is it that makes you enjoy it? In most cases, our interests and passions enhance our happiness. We’re also usually good at them, and excelling at something is a great way to add focus and positivity to your life.

Think of the Positive Outcomes

How will your passion and dreams positively effect others? Does what you love doing help another person in any way? Avoid thinking literally – yes, doctors physically do help people. But so do musicians, accountants, yoga instructors and authors. Every occupation, every hobby, every interest in the world impacts someone’s life and has the power to create positivity. Maybe you’re really into photography, but think there’s no point doing it for a living because people won’t care. Wrong. Viewing art can really enhance people’s lives. Art collection is a hobby, and just looking at beautiful pictures on Instagram can put you in a good mood. Don’t underestimate the power of your passion.

Think Forward

If in doubt, thinking ahead will really show you why valuing what you love is important. Picture your life in 10 years, then 20. Where do you see yourself? Do you think you will be happy continuing on in the job you currently hold? Do you think your passion will simply die and you’ll no longer wish to pursue it? That’s no way to think of life! When it comes to the crunch, the old saying ‘life is short’ is true. We’re only on this Earth for a short time, so let’s make the most of it. Let’s really enjoy our time here. When you look back at your life, you don’t want to have regrets and wish you’d pursued your passion after all. Value what you love, and  follow that passion.

The Year That Was

It’s been a big year! With Christmas over and New Years Eve just around the corner, I decided to reflect on each of the past twelve months. Looking back at everything you’ve been through over the span of a year helps add perspective and shows how much you’ve achieved. As I think over my 2016, think of your own experience and accomplishments. Consider the goals you had in January and where you are now. Do you feel that you’ve improved some part of your life this year? Do you feel it’s been a good year? Re-evaluation comes next month, so for now think it over, reward yourself for your successes, and have a fabulous December 31st.

January

I kicked off the year with a series of Teen Styling Courses around New Zealand while the high school kids were still on their summer break. I love seeing the smile on my student’s faces as they discover their personal style and build confidence!

 

February

The Body Shape Range went on sale so I could make room for my next clothing line! Out with the old, in with the new, right?

 

March

In March my team and I had a stall at the Wanaka A&P Show and Horse of the Year, selling clothes and doing fittings. We love being part of New Zealand country fairs and expos!

 

April

April was a big month for me as I made the move from Christchurch to Auckland. I miss Christchurch a lot, but Auckland has it’s perks, too. My styling team and I also began our StyleMe Lounge sessions at malls around the country.

 

May

I launched my Fashion Stylist Course in Australia, holding programs in the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne. This was very exciting!!

 

June

The big Real Housewives of Auckland announcement was made!

 

July

The highlight of July was shooting the cover for Eye Magazine – so much fun! I also did an interview with the magazine about my experience on RHOAKL.

 

August

The Real Housewives of Auckland launched on Bravo TV, and the hype began…

 

September

This month I flew to Melbourne to sign with Giant Model Management, visit Australia’s first Dry & Tea Salon, and meet some of the Real Housewives of Melbourne. What a blast!

 

October

October saw the launch of my new book Being Real, as well as my book tour around New Zealand. One of my proudest moments for 2016. My styling team and I also had a stall at the lovely annual Culverden Fete.

 

November

I resumed my role as Fashion Coordinator for Riccarton Cup & Show Week, one of my absolute favourite times of the year. As always the contestants looked gorgeous, making it a very difficult competition!

 

December

Over the past month I’ve been busy working on my new plans for 2017 – there’s a big announcement coming, so stay tuned!

Be the Kind of Person You Want to Know

When you think about yourself and the life you lead, are you happy? Do you view yourself in a positive light? Do you think of yourself as a good person? Are you proud of who you are and the way you treat others? This week, my blog is all about being the type of person you want to know.

 

Be Someone You’d be Proud to Call a Friend 

Try to be the sort of person you would be thrilled to know and call a friend. Look at the special people in your life and consider what you love most about them. Do you also exhibit some of those qualities? Be someone who lifts others up, tackles challenges head-on and lives life with a positive outlook. Remember to practice what you preach. If you value friendliness and patience, enact those values. Live by your beliefs and show commitment to your passions and goals.

 

Be Generous

If we were all generous, the world would be a much better place. Learning to give to others is a positive trait that benefits both you and the receiver. Consume less and give more. Be generous not just in the literal, gift-giving sense, but with your time and your advice. Talk less and listen more to those around you. Show that you care by offering your support and bringing positivity into other’s lives. Generosity is beautiful thing!

 

Be Kind 

Kindness is one of the keys to living a fulfilled life. Not everyone believes in karma, but I truly do. When you do positive things with your life, the universe sends positive things your way. Kindness is infectious and can make someone’s day just that little bit better. Plus, you can’t help but feel good when you do something nice for another person. Be selfless, not selfish. You, the world and those around you will be better for it!
