Curvy women are the most fun to style. Why? Because they have curves and that beautiful natural shape that needs to be emphasised. The only hard thing about dressing curvy women, is sometimes they want to hide their shape instead of embrace it. This post today gives you some tips on how to style your clients to make the most of their curvy figure.

Wear the right size

Rule #1: Always wear the right size. If you wear an item that’s too small, it will make you look bigger than you are. Wearing items that are too big hide your shape and can make you look bulky instead of showing your curves. Always wear the size that fits the best so it flatters your body shape.


Wear Heels

Wearing heels gives the illusion of appearing taller and slimmer. If your legs look longer, they will also appear thinner. Shoes with pointy toes will help make your legs seem longer. Be aware of ankle straps and where they sit on the ankle; you want it to be on the smallest part of your ankle (like the picture above) or it will make your legs appear wider.

Try a Wrap Dress

Wrap dresses should be your best friend. They are very forgiving and emphasis that beautiful hourglass shape. They generally tie at your natural waist, which is the slimmest area of your body. The gathering detail that comes with the design emphasises your curves and keeps the eye busy, not allowing it to stop at any one point.


Embrace Your Curves

Work out the best way to show off your curves and use it to your advantage. If you love your small waist, emphasise it by wearing high rise bottoms and waist belts. Most women would kill to have curves, so never hide them. 


Avoid The Infamous Shift Dress

This style should be avoided at all costs for curvy women. It is not flattering at all. It completely hides your shape and can actually make you look bigger than you are. They may be comfy and come in great colours and prints, but they are not for you!

You need to highlight your best assets and direct any focus away from the areas your self-conscious about. It is all about pointing out the positive and hiding the negative.

Food To Put In Your Trolley For A Healthier You

It is easy to stick to comfort food during the cooler months so I have put together a small list of some healthy food alternatives that are packed with nutrients and vitamins. By opting for healthier versions, you will notice a new spring in your step with benefits that range from sleeping better and shedding some pounds.

Quinoa is a great substitute for rice. It is a superfood and tastes good too. Being a whole grain, it is full of B vitamins, iron and fibre.

It is also very versatile, so you can use it in various dishes; a bowl for breakfast with honey, add to a bowl of veggie salad, or to a stir-fry.

This is a great source of many different nutrients and can be eaten raw or fresh. It makes a great addition to salads or homemade soups. My favourite way to add spinach to my dishes is to add it as a side and sauté it with garlic and olive oil. If spinach isn’t your favourite veggie, you can chop it up finely and add it into stir-frys or savoury muffins to hide them.

Plain, Greek yogurt is low in sugar and has more protein than traditional and flavoured yoghurts. You can add flavour and sweetness to it by adding fresh fruit, honey, or granola to create the perfect breakfast or snack.

Greek Youghurt is also the perfect alternative for sour cream in recipes and makes a great base for any homemade salad dressings.



My top tip for shopping: don’t avoid the bulk bins in your supermarket! They have some great bargains and there is also some healthy snacks or additions for your meals. Buying in bulk allows you to cut costs.

Almonds are the perfect on the go snack and as an added bonus, they load you up with protein and healthy fats!



Avocados are great in salads and wraps, but you can also mash them and use it as a substitute for mayonnaise in sandwiches.

Avocado is easy to turn into guacamole and adds vitamin E and healthy fats to your burritos, tacos and enchiladas. If you have kids, they will love trying Mexican food and putting their own meal together!


Berries are a great source of antioxidants, which you need to ward off numerous health problems, including heart disease and cancer. Eat them plain, add them to a yoghurt, mix them into your breakfast porridge or toss them into a smoothie for a healthy breakfast on the go! Fresh berries frozen fresh can be purchased in bulk from your supermarket so you always have some on hand.

Beans are an ideal choice for a small budget as a little goes a long way! They are the perfect source of protein and fibre.

Cooking p a pot of beans is really easy and they make a great side dish for chicken and pork chops. Dry beans are cheaper than canned alternatives and definitely healthier too.

On-the-Go Beauty Tips for Last-Minute Events

Simple skin care and fashion secrets to look and feel your best for success!

If you’re like me, you’re on the go most of the time… working, taking care of family members, exercising, and handling various responsibilities on a daily basis. And while we try to live a healthy lifestyle, unexpected events often come up where we just need a little something “extra” to look and feel our very best. Whether it’s a big job-interview, meeting, date with someone special, or another activity, what can you do when this happens?

Here are my favorite, on-the-go beauty tips to help you look and feel more successful at your last-minute event!


Simple Skincare for Fast, Glowing Skin

Are you ready to make a great, first-impression with glowing skin, or could your complexion use a little help? 

I don’t know about you, but when I clean my face, I instantly feel refreshed. My favorite, skin pick-me-up is the Foaming Facial Cleanser. Just add two pumps to your hands, and massage the soap in a circular motion from your forehead down the rest of your face. You’ll remove all of the dirt, make-up, and impurities while unclogging pores. The fresh scent is invigorating, and it’s actually fun to wash away your stress with the fluffy, white foam!

After rinsing and gently drying your face, add your favorite, facial moisturizer to hydrate your skin. Your face will have a healthy, energetic glow. (And ladies, you now have a smooth, clean base for applying natural-looking make-up appropriate for your event.)

If you have time, I recommend you use a skin exfoliator and night cream too. Feel free to use the products you are most comfortable with, but I love the Age Defying Exfoliating Scrub and the Restorative Night Cream. For business events, start with a plain, well-tailored suit, skirt and blouse, or dress. Then, add a sense of style, color and personal flair with a tie, scarf, sweater, or jewelry. And don’t forget to check your teeth, hair, nails, and shoes before you leave to ensure your look is clean, polished and professional.


jIf you are going on a casual date, choose an ironed, collared shirt or blouse with pants or jeans that flatter your personal, body shape. Then add heels or a nice pair of comfortable shoes for walking or dancing. While you may want to wear something that’s a bit too tight or revealing to be more “sexy,” be careful. You may end up looking heavier, shorter, messy, or just plain silly!

Instead, stick to clothes that fit well and are appropriate for your particular age. Remember, just because something is a fashion “trend,” or it has been hiding in your closet for several years, doesn’t mean you need to wear it. The key is to feel fresh, confident and comfortable. Then you can relax and be ready for success… no matter how much time you have to prepare for your last-minute event!

Matching Eyebrow Shape To Your Face Shape

Eyebrows have become an important part of your face. We’re not saying they weren’t before, but with numerous brow kits on the market now, and a huge emphasis on having great brows, we thought a blog post about what brow shape goes with what face shape was important for our stylists today.

It’s important for you as a stylist to have great brows before advising clients on what is best for their face shape so this tool is useful for everyone. A lot of people look at their favourite celebrities or role models and recreate their looks, but it is always a good idea to check what will suit you first and foremost.


Oval face shapes suit soft angled eyebrows. To create the perfect arch, your eyebrows need to go straight up above the center of your pupil and then start to curve.

Round faces should try to create a high arch, as this works best for your face shape.

If you have a long face, this style is perfect for you. Why? Flatter eyebrows create the illusion that your face is shorter than it actually is.

If you have a square face, the thicker your brows are, the better. Of course, they still need to be shaped, and when you do, make sure that they are slightly rounded.

If you have a heart shape face, you will need to soften your look. The best way to do this is making sure your brows are rounded.

Diamond face shapes suit both curved and angled eyebrows. Both styles will make soften your face and make the widest part of your face appear thinner.

No matter what your face shape is, you should make sure that your eyebrows begin and end in the right places. Use this guide below to learn where your brows should start and finish. Use a pencil or ruler to get a better idea of where your brows are now.

Our top tip: find a beautician you trust and can visit regularly for maintenance. Make sure you take a picture of what look you are wanting and be really clear on what you want to avoid over plucking or the wrong shape.

Buying Clothes Online Just Got Easier!

Online shopping is a tempting way to purchase new items. It is now easier than ever to buy clothing online and find the best price or get an exclusive discount code. But buying online comes with risks and to help save you and your clients from wasting any money, we have some great tips below to get the most out of your online experience!

Get The Right Fit

belly-2354_1280For some stores, you will fit size 10, but in other stores, you will fit a size 12 best. It doesn’t mean your weight is fluctuating, just that different clothing brands have different fits that you need to be aware of. One way to get around this online, is to check the stores size chart on their site to work out what size you should purchase.

This also means you need to learn how to measure your body properly. A sizing chart won’t be much use if you cannot work out your measurements first. 

Shoulders: Measure across the flat of your back from the widest point in your shoulders. This is an important measurement as it will make sure you have room to move your arms and the sleeve seam will sit perfectly on your shoulder.

Waist: You can usually find your waist easily if you have a defined waist but if you can’t work it out, don’t worry! Your waist is just above your belly button and you will need to measure around your middle to get the right measurement.

Hips: This measurement can get a bit tricky for people. You need to measure the widest part of your bottom, this will ensure you get the right fitting pants. This could be directly where your hip bones are, or it could be a bit lower. Stand straight in a mirror to see where your widest point is.

Do Some Research

Now here’s the sad part… You can’t always trust a a2d268c7a045d917bce7b0ba229b0e2cstore that has an online presence. If it’s a reputable brand that a lot of people shop at and never seem to have problems then go ahead. But if it is a new site that you have found on your travels, do some research. Google some reviews and search their social media pages. Customers voice their opinions more than ever. If the prices sound too good to be true, then it probably is!

It’s also a great idea to check their return policy. If it is on sale, it’s unlikely they will accept returns. Most stores will offer a credit or refund for change of mind purchases made online which can give you peace of mind shopping online.

Our Top Tip: The models on the site look great in the clothes because of lighting and editing so it’s easy to think you will suit the clothes but you should google the name of the clothing and see if you can see everyday people wearing the clothing in google images. With so many fashion bloggers around, you are bound to see it on another person to give you a better idea of the style and fit.


 Check The Description

Make sure you read the entire description of what you are wanting to buy. It might tell you more information than the pictures.

If your unsure of the fabric content, go through your wardrobe and learn what your clothes are made of. Sometimes the photos trick you and you mat receive a sheer top that you thought was not. 




It can be easy to forget that you are spending real money online so don’t get too caught up in the hype of a sale. Make sure you really want it and you will get some wear out of it. A great idea is to sleep on it and come back the next day, if it’s gone it just wasn’t meant to be.

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Skin Care Products



Skin care is a vital part of ensuring your skin looks better than ever. There is a common saying that goes, “makeup only looks as good as the base it is applied on”. You may be surprised to learn just how many of my clients were not using the basic skin care products before I started working with them! Today I want to share some tips about products that your skin will benefit from and how much you should be applying. Keep on reading to find out more!

When you use your face wash or cleanser, it is important to use the right amount as this it needs to be effectively used to clean your pores. Younger people prone to breakouts may prefer to use a face wash and a cleanser to ensure you are ridding your pores of excess oil and dirt. If you have more mature skin, a cleanser is a great way to keep your skin in top condition. I recommend using an amount about the size of a 10 cent coin. If you are using a product with a pump, one pump should be sufficient to clean your face and neck.




All serums are quite concentrated, so you do not need to use a huge amount for it to work wonders on your skin. Three to five drops is all you need for your entire face and neck. Your skin won’t see any additional benefits from using more than that, so save your product and money by using the correct amount.

Before you go to bed, it’s so important to use a nourishing moisturiser that repairs and restores your skin from the day you have just had! This can also help in preventing signs of ageing. To get the most out of your night cream, I recommend using a grape size amount to cover your face and neck… Yes, don’t forget your neck! They age too!!



When it comes to your daily facial moisturiser, you need more than what you would use for other products. You need to use as much as two peanuts to make sure you are hydrating your skin and neck sufficiently. Remember, no matter what season it is here, you can still burn, so using a moisturiser with SPF built in is perfect all year round.


My Top Tip: Take Off That Makeup Before Bed!

I often think I sound like a broken record with this one, but yes, you need to remove your makeup every night before bed, even if all you wore that day was tinted moisturiser! Your skin needs to breathe and you would be amazed just how much work your body does while your asleep. Leaving your pores blocked will have your skin looking dull and tired when you get up the next day.

Yes, sometimes we have a late night out with girls, or sometimes we are literally too tired and fall asleep on the couch. No excuses! Trust me with this top tip and your skin will love you for it!

No matter what your income is, a budget is the best way to manage your money. A budget is not just something you need to plan if you have debt to clear. It can be for travelling, buying furniture or because you want to do the amazing Styleyou Fashion Stylist eCourse and take control of your career! If you have never set yourself a budget before, here’s our top tips:

Calculate Monthly Income

The first place to start when considering how to set a budget is to sit down and calculate your total of monthly income. This is the first step in writing up a sensible budget, and allows you to see your total monthly and annual earnings.

What are your fixed expenses?

Add together all of the monthly expenses that occur on a monthly basis, no matter what is going on, such as your rent or mortgage, electricity, automatic payments, groceries or student loan repayments. Working out this figure will let you see what your total fixed expenses are that you must cover every month.

You need to determine what you want to save for. Having a goal and a figure of how much you need to save will push you in the right direction. 

What are your discretionary expenses?

So now you can work out what you can cut back on! What do you buy regularly that you don’t need? Coffee a day? Do you buy your lunch every day? By sacrificing on things that you can do yourself or are unneeded, you will begin to save so much more money. 

Take this example to motivate you in the rift direction: If you stop buying one coffee every week day for a year, you will save $1040!

To find out your cash flow, you need to work out the difference between money coming in and money going out. If your calculations come out with a positive number, then you are on the right path for saving. However, if it comes out negative, it means your income doesn’t cover your expenses. You will need to work out what else you can cut from you discretionary expenses to live within your means.

Because life doesn’t always go to plan, you need to be flexible so you can change your budget when your circumstances change.

There is an app for everything these days! So why not start using one to help you save for your goals?

A lot of the banks in NZ have great apps that allow you to easily transfer money into a specified savings account.

Saving made simple is another great app that takes out all the hassle of budgeting.

How To Stay Healthy In Winter

You either love it or you hate it, but regardless of your feelings, Winter is here and making her presence felt! It’s so easy to get sick and loose your routine during these colder months, so today I wanted to give you my top tips for staying motivated and healthy till Spring arrives with open arms!

Oatmeal is one of those feel good starts to the day, giving your body a hug from the inside out! It is so good for you and filling as well. As the saying goes, “breakfast is the most important meal of the day”. You can add a variation of toppings to make it even better as well; honey, banana, berries, brown sugar… The choice is yours!

Vegetables like kumara, carrots, parsnips and broccoli are great winter vegetables that will keep you full and stop you snacking on junk food. Remember that you need your daily intake of fruit and vegetables, don’t slack off just because it’s colder!

It can be that much harder to stay motivated in winter. While staying healthy during winter may not seem like a priority, it is so important to look after yourself from the inside out.
