Ball Season Is Coming…

Remember your High School ball? It’s a very special time. There’s also a lot of pressure when trying to  find the perfect dress. This is a night they will remember for the rest of their life, making memories with friends and getting dressed up to the nines! I have trawled through some of my favourite stores to bring you a range of fabulous dresses. Take a look below for some inspiration!

(Like a dress below? Click on the picture to be taken through to the listing on each online store)

The first peach maxi dress has a deep v neckline with a half peplum waist and trumpet skirt. The middle emerald midi dress has ruching and drapery that is so flattering on an O shape. The last dress would be great on an hourglass figure, and is an elegant, flirty style with a touch of sheer fabric. Sheike is also really affordable for the quality of their garments. They are an Australian store but ship to NZ.

Forever New

Forever New is a great store in NZ with beautiful dresses made in a range of colours and fabrics. You will find their colour choices are very seasonal so people who suit the Winter seasonal colours will find great pieces here now. The first dress is a very modern take on a ball dress with the lace work creating shape. The other two dresses are cut beautifully and the cut that you decide upon will depend on what works best for your body shape. The range of dresses here are a little higher but they have great discounts on sale items so it is worth a look!

Ruby Boutique is a popular designer label, especially for younger women. They create stunning gowns every season, and this Winter is no exception. While they come with a higher price tag, the gorgeous fabrics and design details help explain why! These two gowns are so elegant and would make any girl feel absolutely beautiful!

Moochi is similar to Ruby but steps up another price bracket. These dresses are definitely for the modern girl who loves simplicity and luxurious fabrics. The great thing about opting for a more muted dress with design detail, is you can have fun with your shoes and makeup!

How To Teach People To Love Their Bodies

Your job as a stylist is to help your clients find themselves, build a wardrobe around their individual style, but most importantly, love their body. Many people feel uncomfortable with their bodies. Due to images and media we see everyday, many people choose to point out their flaws instead of seeing beauty.

Today on the blog we have come up with some tips to help you help your clients love their bodies. The most important thing to remember is we were all born to be individual, no one is the same! All shapes and sizes are beautiful, it is how we hold ourself that shows the world how confident we are.

Teach your client not to hide from mirrors. Help them find the perfect place with great lighting in their home. Make them stand in front of the mirror and point out their best assets (and watch their face light up)! It is so easy to just find all the negative parts of our body and comment on them, we all have something we don’t love about ourself but teach them how to find what they love.

Make them write a list of everything they love about themselves. Make them write it down instead of just saying it out loud. It’s so much more powerful. Get them to stick it to their mirror so they can see all these great qualities on a daily basis.

When we don’t feel confident about how we look, it can be hard to accept compliments. You need to change their mindset! Your client needs to learn to how to listen to these compliments and take them on board. Maybe they get more compliments when they wear a certain shade of lipstick or when they wear their hair down. Teach them to be gracious when they hear these comments by always saying thank you. This will help them accept it and learn to believe it too!

Teach them to cut any and all negative words out of their vocabulary. When they look at their body, they don’t have to compliment it, but they are not allowed to criticise it either. When people stop tearing themselves apart for every little thing daily, they will naturally become a lot happier.

Screen Shot 2015-05-14 at 11.37.47 am

You also need to teach them that comparing themselves with others is not healthy. We have said it before and we will say it again: we are all different! Imagine how boring the world would be if we were all similar? You will often find that skinny girls want more curves and curvy girls want to be smaller. We always want what we don’t have but learning how to work with what you have got and showing off your best assets is the best help and advice you can give to anyone!

Our last piece of advice to help you help your clients love their bodies is to show them that their confidence and how they hold themselves, is going to impact how others view them. If they walk into a room and own it, people will take notice and think how great they look because their confidence is shining through!

How To Beat Those Naughty Food Cravings

We all get cravings from time to time and they come in a range of disguises; salty, sweet, crunchy and savoury. If you are starting to watch what you are putting into your body to live a healthier lifestyle, this post today is for you! I give you my favourite snacks for each craving you could get. It is so easy to make this change if you haven’t thought about it before as well. Make a change today and notice the difference in your appearance, how you feel and how you sleep. What you put into your body influences how you feel daily!

Fresh Food: Cucumber

Vegetables are always your best option. Fresh, wholesome foods will fill you up and don’t have any nasty side affects, mainly because of their high water content.

Opt for cucumber or carrot slices that will make for a perfectly refreshing and crunchy snack. You can even consider adding chilli flakes or some sea salt on these slices.

Chocolate Cravings: Almond Milkadcb9c15230e66c5934f374ff7218141

Chocolate is a favourite snack for many of us and it really is hard not to love! But with so much sugar and saturated fat, it really isn’t a good option. Try making your own version with almond milk and melt chocolate made of raw cacao. My favourite brand is Pana chocolate, which is easy to source within NZ. This will provide you with more calcium than you can find in cow’s milk, with a couple grams of carbohydrates.

Kale Chips

A packet of chips is easy to pick up on the run. What’s even better? Making your own kale chips is the perfect healthy alternative! Lay them in a single layer on a tray and coat lightly in olive oil and season with sale. Bake at 180c for 5-10 minutes and keep a close eye as they burn quickly. Once golden, let them cool and snack away.

These snacks will help overcome your salty craving with fewer calories and loads of nutrients, including calcium and magnesium, than any chips.

Crunchy: Air-Popped Popcorn5176dfc1ceda93cc1512eae26a74c166

To many popcorn is something you overeat in the movies and is covered in butter making it a fatty and salty snack. But making it yourself from kernels takes our all the preservatives and additives in the pre-made packages and offers you a healthy snack from a few minutes of effort.

Homemade popcorn is perfect for children as well! You can really taste the difference when you make it yourself

Sweetness: Freeze Dried Apples

Snacking on freeze dried apples will help overcome any sweet cravings you might have and can even help relieve stress, due to the presence of magnesium.

The sweetness of the apple will help conquer any sugar cravings and you will feel so much better for opting for it.

Say NO To Fizzys: Try Kombuchab37063424ef9353c118c77a7bf2b52a3

Do you always crave for something sweet and fizzy? So many people are quite addicted to soft drinks but with so much added sugar, it’s time to try an alternative. I prefer drinking herbal teas and lots of water every day but if you still crave something fizzy, this is your best option.

Kombucha is readily available at plenty of stores and provides your body with healthy bacteria that soothe your stomach and improve digestion.

Snacks On The Go: Grape TomatoesScreen Shot 2015-05-14 at 11.04.59 am

These are among the healthiest snacks and as an added bonus, are easy to pack and mess-proof. I love the sweetness and taste as well as the refreshment they provide. They are also very healthy thanks to their zinc, vitamin c, lycopene, and a variety of antioxidants.

So have I inspired you today to opt for a healthier version? Would you like to see some tips on preparing meals? Let me know in the comments on Facebook, I would love to hear from you!

Look After Your Locks This Winter

As a female working in one of the most fast pace and ever changing industries, I love to experiment with my hair. I love getting some highlights to soften up my dark locks, as well as learn easy but effective styles that I can incorporate into my daily routine. Like many of you, I still have 3 children living at home as well as a national business to run, so my time is limited! I have come up with these top tips to help care for your hair this winter and make it look healthier than ever!

I believe it is just as important to treat the roots of the hair as it is the ends of the hair. Hair grows from within your body so to maintain a healthy head of hair it is important to make sure your body is consuming the right supplements. Hair loss as well as thinning hair in women is a common issue, this could be the result of a deficiency.

I use what I believe to be the best, all natural supplements on the market; XtendLife.

Taken in conjunction together daily, this mix gives my body the boost it needs to be the best! A lot of people are nervous buying supplements online. These products are made in NZ and they have a 365 day money back guarantee if you are unhappy with the results.

d08a6f1435881d92857e3ebfe076dc97Limit The Tools

I know this may sound impossible to some people but I cannot recommend giving your hair a break at times. If you blow wave or straighten your hair every day, it is going to damage your hair and create a lot of split ends. You can try washing your hair at night and letting it dry naturally to style in the morning, or heat less rollers the night before to give you the volume and style you desire. This tip may not suit everyone but give it a go, your hair will thank you for it!

Massage That Scalp

Massaging the scalp has been proven to get blood flowing to the roots which then stimulates hair growth. About once a week before I go to bed, I take the tips of my finger and gently massage the roots of my hair for 5 or so minutes.

Regular Trims

It is so important to get regular trims every 6 to 8 0e6cb33e64ccedd908fbdaf2b640706cweeks. You need to do this to get rid of all your dead ends and allow new, healthy hair to grow from the roots. Many women are scared to get trims regularly as they are trying to grow their hair longer, but regular trims will keep your hair healthier and will help it to grow. Just make sure you are clear with your hairdresser that you only want the dead ends cut off and you want to keep as much length as possible.

Screen Shot 2015-05-07 at 12.11.13 pmWeekly Treatments

Lastly, it is so important to nourish your hair and treat it to a good treatment. Any product containing keratin in it, is good for your hair. Keratin is what your hair is made up of and provides strength and toughness. I love using the Joico K-Pak range as it is affordable and lasts a long time.
